| Phi Phi Diving
In addition a wide
variety of tropical fish, soft and hard corals, there are huge sea fans and, on the sandy
bottom, leopard sharks.
For non-divers the Phi Phi area offers superb snorkelling, with the opportunity to see not
only beautiful coral gardens but also some of the larger fish at shallow depths.
Local operators offer day dives around Phi Phi and the neighbouring islands with longer
trips available on liveaboard dive boats to further destinations like the Similan Islands
and Burma. Take a look at the our listings for more info.
Dive Site
There are around a dozen diving operations on the
island, mostly located in the small, and only, town in Ton Sai Bay on Koh Phi Phi Don.
The Phi Phi dives are also visited as daily excursions by operations in Krabi and on Koh
Phuket.
Hin Daeng & Hin Muang
Two outstanding Dive Sites in South Thailand close to Phi Phi Island Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are
fascinating and really dramatic dive sites. Arguably the greatest two sites in Thai waters
they are comparable to the best diving spots in the world!
Hin Daeng and Hin
Muang are located only app. 55 km (180 degrees) South of Phi Phi Island. These reefs offer
the deepest drop-off and steepest wall in the kingdom. As both reefs are situated in open
sea, making the the only feeding grounds of the area, there is an unimaginable lot of
marine life. The nearest island is Ko Rock Nock, about 25 km away.
Hin Daeng is a large
underwater reef surging up from a depth of 50 m, breaking the surface. Only a very small
peak hovers above the water. On its northern side the reef drops in a relatively gentle
slope. Yet the southern side has a drop-off down to more than 50 meters. Hin Daeng's
average depth is 25 meters, reaching 35 meters at the max.
Hin Muang translates
to "Purple Rock". The reason for this name are the many wonderful soft corals -
pink and purple sea anemones - that completely cover the highest point of this reef. Hin
Muang is located only some hundred meters from Hin Daeng and rises from a depth of more
than 70 meters. It comes 9 meters close to the surface and features the deepest drop-off
in Thai waters.

King Cruiser Wreck
Built in Japan 30 years ago,
King Cruiser was a comfortable catamaran-hull passenger-cruiser with 4 decks until she
sank on the 4th May 1997 in near perfect weather conditions. An easy dive, King Cruiser
has large openings that allow easy access to the spacious interior. The propellers
(deepest point) rest 30 metres deep with the most interesting areas around the passenger
decks between 10 and 20 metres.
Hin Pae is a relatively shallow dive site - 10 to 15 metres deep. Its shallow depth offers
excellent snorkeling. Hin Pae is sometimes called Baby Shark Point, because even
snorkellers have the opportunity to see different types of sharks. The main topography
includes boulder and brain corals, with many holes and tunnels for moray eels to pass
through. Soft and hard coral provide shelter for a rich variety of coral fish. Crabs,
lobsters, angelfish, groupers, snappers and surgeonfish are also residents of this area.
